Motor Development Observation and Lab Report
Fall 2011
Element 1.3:
Describe and apply motor development theory and principles related to skillful movement, physical activity, and fitness
Reflection:
Motor Development class (PED 201) introduced me to a hands-on teaching experience where I interacted and taught real students in a proper teaching environment. We did a lab every other week at St Mary’s School and observed children from pre-K through 6th. Our focus was to create lessons that we can use to assess the development of certain fundamental motor skills. This lab was another excellent experience; we had fun and exciting activities for the kids and most important it was a great tool for us to observe the motor skills. Students really responded to our costumes and had a lot of positive energy. This artifact is important to my development as a teacher because it demonstrates the ability to utilized my knowledge of different stages of running, galloping, and hopping to measure a variety of ability levels. This ability is vital in helping to give students positive and corrective feedback allowing them to gain confidence and become more skillfull and physically educated.
